RM Sotherby's sells Alfa Romeo BAT Trio for $15.488m USD

Wednesday 28th October 2020
Our belief that a number pf Alfa Romeo motor cars produced prior to the mid 1970s are true works of art was proved right this evening. Tonight RM Sotherbys presented the the trio of Alfa Romeo BAT cars produced by the design house Bertone and penned by Franco Scaglione in their Evening Sale of Contemporary Art.

Nestled in amongst other works of art by artists such as Frank Stella, Andy Warhol, Carlo Mollino and Gerhard Richter the Scaglione threesome stood out by head and shoulders and changed hands for $15,488,250.00 USD.

Produced by the coach-builder Bertone in 1953, 1954 and 1955, the B.A.T. cars 5, 7 and 9 were designed by Franco Scaglione, whose work included creations for Fiat, Siata, Maserati, Lamborghini, Aston-Martin and the German automakers NSU and Porsche. His last project for Alfa Romeo, the 1967 gull-wing Stradale 33, was said to be the fastest and most expensive automobile of its time.

We may never see the like of this trio offered to market again and hope the public get the chance to view and enjoy these works of art on wheels from time to time in the future.
