Jaguar with Profumo history for sale

Saturday 18th January 2014
This car featured in one of the largest political scandals the country had seen in the 1960s and now you could have the opportunity of owning part of the history as it is shortly to be offered for sale - The 'Profumo' Jaguar.
Restored in 1990 by the marque specialists Marina Garage, this white 1959 XK150 was owned by Dr Stephen Ward was charged with living off the gains of prostitution via Christine Keeler and Mandy Rice-Davies which lead to the end of John Profumo's career as Secretary of State for War in 1963. Ward took his own life during the trial.
It is due to be auctioned by Silverstone Auctions whose MD Nick Whale commented “Few Jaguars can boast such a fascinating ownership record and one that seemingly defined the era when it was first driven. Few cars offered at auction have such an amazing connection to such important events in British political history.”
The case was later made into a 1989 movie, Scandal, in which John Hurt (playing Ward) drove a white XK, and more recently a musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber.
This very interesting car carries an estimate of £55-65,000.
