Alfa Romeo Montreal sells for €107,280 at Retro Mobile Paris

Sunday 8th February 2015
Montreal prices seem to have gathered pace during 2014 and into 2015, with the first major European auction of the year at Retro Mobile showing this nice, but not perfect example achieved well over €100,000 at sale last Saturday.

This car was purchased from it's first owner in August 1982, by Paul Gavarini, the then the CEO of Exxon Europe in Geneva. His son was looking out of his father's office window when he saw the Montreal parked in the street below. So impressed by the way it looked, they both went down to see it up close. It was then that they met the owner, who told them he had bought it new and it was now for sale. The father and son decided to buy the car together, with the son to pay his father his share at a later date...

They used the car until 1986, when the family moved to California, leaving the car was stored in a barn belonging to the them in Savoie. Then in 1991, during a visit to France, they had a valued having covered just 44 698 km. It wasn't until 2013 that Paul Gavarin's son Jean-Hugues, retrieved the car, and decided to have it completely restored by a German friend. The Montreal was stripped back to bare metal and a photographic restoration was carried out. And that is the condition that it was presented in at the Artcurial action at Retro Mobile in Paris on Saturday 7th February 2015 where it sold for €107,280 including commission.

This just goes to show how fast Montreal prices have been ascending throughout 2014 and we believe this rise is set to continue as more and more enthusiasts and collectors start to really appreciate their looks, style and performance.
