Giulietta SZ Zagato of Corrado Lopresto stuns Villa d'Esta

Tuesday 31st May 2016
Visitors to this year’s Concorso d’Eleganza at Villa d’Este (20-22 May) were fascinated by an Alfa Romeo Giulietta SZ Zagato which went on take the second FIVA Preservation Award of the year.
Was it a car never used and enjoyed, was it full of patina, carefully looked after and preserved? No - coming from the prolific collector Corrado Lopresto this Alfa Romeo is ‘half-and-half’ with one side in as-found condition – complete with years of grime and dust preserved with a thin layer of lacquer – while the other has just been gently cleaned. The Coda Tronca prototype, which was jointly developed by Elio Zagato and Ercole Spada, truly is a time capsule frozen in time.
Lebanese ambassador to UNESCO, Dr Khalil Karam presented the award at the legendary Italian concours, whilst telling onlookers “we are very much inspired by what is being done by FIVA as a protector of world heritage”.
Lopresto’s Zagato is the second car to be recognised by FIVA in 2016, following Dan Davis’ Amelia Island Concours-winning 1930 Cord L-29. It is hoped that all of the recipients of the award will be put on display at UNESCO’s international headquarters in Paris at the end of the year.
