According to Alfa Romeo Automobilisimo Storico, the chassis number AR 329077 originally corresponds to an Alfa Romeo Giulia Super (105.26), manufactured on the 23rd February 1966 and sold on the 18th April 1966 in Bari, Italy. The body colour is Bianco Spino.
This rare and early Giulia Super Bollino d'oro arrived in the UK in 2005 from long term ownership in Southern Italy. Having benefitted from the kind and dry climate of Bari the body was virtually corrosion free. Her UK based Italian owner decided to have a bare metal repaint carried out. The interior was removed and carefully cleaned whilst the body was stripped and repainted in her original colour before she was reassembled. During this time the original engine and 5 speed gearbox were removed and overhauled.
Today this Bollino d'oro remains in excellent and original condition, with a preserved appearance of patination honestly displayed as a testament to her 55 years of careful use and enjoyment.
In 2012 AR329077 attended celebrations in Milan to mark the 50th anniversary of the Giulia, driven to Italy from the UK and back in convoy without fault. Alfa Romeo clubs, enthusiasts and automotive fans all over the world gathered to pay tribute to the Giulia. Celebrations culminated on 24th June at the test track in Balocco, where historically Alfa Romeo became one of the first European manufacturers to have available such a facility for the testing and technical development of its vehicles, both racing and road cars. The Autodelta, Alfa Romeo's official racing department, was one of the first to use this circuit.
This early example is a delight to drive and as with well preserved Giulia Supers, is a practical and spacious classic capable of touring. With a coefficient drag of just 0.34 she defies her age and makes an ideal vehicle to enjoy in the UK throughout the summer as Covid restrictions are relaxed. Furthermore, she will be ideal to tour down to Italy in in 2022 when we are all safe to travel again.
